هوش مصنوعی با الهام از همین ساختار، مدل‌هایی به نام نورون مصنوعی (Artificial Neuron) ایجاد کرده است؛ واحدهایی ریاضی که با استفاده از ورودی‌ها، وزن‌ها و توابع فعال‌سازی، الگوها را یاد می‌گیرند و تصمیم می‌گیرند.

اگرچه نورون‌های مصنوعی هنوز بسیار ساده‌تر از نورون‌های واقعی هستند، اما همین ایده‌ی الهام‌گرفته از زیست‌شناسی، پایه‌ی بسیاری از فناوری‌های مدرن هوش مصنوعی امروز است.
