Three Iranians are on the list of Time100 the world’s most influential people of 2023; Shervin Hajipour, Elahe Mohammadi, and Niloofar Hamedi. With the rise of Social Media at the beginning of the 21st century, people could organize themselves against governments, more effectively than before. Arab Spring occurred followed by the first social movement in the middle east in Iran, the Green Movement in 2009. In 2022, another movement (revolution) started in Iran primarily by women seeking their fundamental freedoms in the name of “Woman, Life, Freedom” as its core slogan.
“Nobody makes a masterpiece knowing they’re making one,” wrote Satrapi, the Oscar-nominated filmmaker, introducing Shervin. The art of Shervin was just creating a monster hit, summarizing and echoing the voice of millions of Iranians who tried a long desperate struggle for a better life and future.
Elaheh Mohammadi and Niloofar Hamedi two journalists who just did their job in the best way so bravely reporting how Mahsa Amini was murdered at the police station and covering Mahsa’s funeral which leads to a social media trend. The name Mahsa in Persian was posted and retweeted over 250 million times, an all-time record in the history of social media.
I’m not sure what will happen next in the future but I’m certain the revolution is won in the minds of all Iranians who are now aware of their fundamental human rights, now in the next step we are just finding ways to make dreams come true.
