
Seyedali Bozorgvari Biography
Seyed Ali Bozorgvari (born 1957) is iranian cleric, war veteran, and conservative politician. He served as a member of the Islamic Consultative Assembly during its 8th and 9th terms, representing the constituencies of Kohgiluyeh, Bahmaei, Choram, and Lendeh. He is known for his active role in the Iran–Iraq War, participation in the Syrian civil war as part of the Defenders of the Shrine, and his outspoken speeches in parliament.
Early life and education
Bozorgvari was born in the village of Tambi, located in the Choram district of Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad Province, Iran. He comes from a religious family and is a descendant of the Sadat of Imamzadeh Ali (AS). He completed his primary education in the villages of Tambi and Toulian.
He later enrolled in the Khan Seminary in Shiraz, where he studied Arabic literature, Islamic jurisprudence (fiqh), and theology under prominent scholars such as Seyyed Karamatollah Malek-Hosseini and Seyyed Ali-Asghar Hosseini.
Political career
Bozorgvari was elected to the Islamic Consultative Assembly for two consecutive terms from 2008 to 2016. During his tenure, he served as the First Secretary of the Agriculture, Water, and Natural Resources Commission. He became known for his passionate and critical speeches, notably during the 2013 cabinet confirmation hearings for President Hassan Rouhani.
Military and jihadist activity
Bozorgvari actively participated in the Iran–Iraq War, spending over 24 months on the front lines and taking part in 17 major military operations. He earned the nickname “RPG shooter of the front” due to his combat role.
Following his time in Parliament, he joined the fight against ISIS in Syria as part of the Iranian-led Defenders of the Shrine forces.

Bozorgvari is widely regarded for his modest lifestyle, close relationship with local communities, and commitment to serving underdeveloped and rural areas. He has contributed significantly to infrastructure development and poverty alleviation in Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad Province, maintaining strong support among his constituents.
