the house of gaunt

6th book.

the sixth book is the most memorable one for me. i had Somayeh Ganji's translation which was nice. she really put her mind into it. after reading the two copies i was convinced she knew what she was doing. like the writer herself, she was imaginative and it was like the original book was written in persian. the sixth book revolves around diving into Tom Riddle's memories. which is ironically not related to Tom Riddle's diary. how trivial my own memories look like, compared to his even if i retouch them in my diary.

first impression

our first impression of the memories is when we meet Horace Slug horn, the carrier of the critical memory. when we meet Slug horn, we don't know about the importance of what is happening. we don't know about the memories. we don't know Harry is going to be seen regularly in Dumbledore's office, that the photographs of the old headmasters are going to witness some of the most crucial moments in the magical history. ( Rowling pictures everything in a way we can completely imagine a history for magic, the events that most influenced the aftermath. )

original books

it all changed when i received the original copies. a gift from my sister who is not a fan but knew i was lacking them in my library and in my life.as i started to read them, things started changing in my mind. because Harry's world, or Rowling's legacy, was and has always been a part of me, if not a huge part of me. and it's not about Harry. it's about feeling you're fitting in for the first time. feeling like even though unbelievable things happen in this world, it can't stop you from getting familiar with the characters, places, and events.

The House of Gaunt

i always remember the House of Gaunt like i was there. Marvolo Gaunt, the Dark Lord's grandfather, proved to be a pureblood supremacist, an iconic character which effectively represents the stereotype.

imagining Lord Voldemort's parents is kind of hard. before that lesson, i never conceptualized about Voldemort's parents. i couldn't imagine a mother giving love to him. which was true. the Dark Lord never knew love. i cannot picture how it can be to grow up without giving and receiving love. that's why it's impossible to identify with him. because love has been inseparable part of our lives. but ironically i could see some artistic aspects to his character. like his interest in priceless and historical objects. like his thirst for learning magic even if it is dark magic. and his desire for immortality. which we can truly understand.

Merope, Tom's mother , named him after his muggle father, which she admired. after her aggressive father and brother's imprisoning, she proved to be determined in the matter of making Senior Riddle fall in love with her. she made a love potion. most likely a strong one. and here i wonder to myself if i could make a love potion, would i do that and make "him" drink it? how does it feel to be loved when you know that love is fake? that the lover didn't chose it? isn't it familiar? isn't it what we feel most of the time?
