Western Fairies, Iranian Tales
Imagination is the most productive talent of each author, and it's possible to see many signs of it in a region's culture or other writers' books. Fairies are a product of this talent that have developed a lot by the passage of time. Each community added and updated its fairies based on their culture. This issue made a high diversity and difference in literature among western and eastern countries, especially Iran.
Western authors use fairies and mythical elements both in high-level literature suitable for professional readers and also fairy tales for children. These tales often include dragons, gnomes, witches, and children as the element of innocence in the story. The stories are usually a fictional edition of history that can attract people more than real events of the past. Religions affected the base of fairy tales but haven't been involved as much as the eastern religions.
In Iranian fairy tales, the writer combines real events and situations of the past. Mythic characters or locations are symbols of a human personality or a society. Fairies are mostly in the advanced level of Persian literature due to the philosophy behind the character. There are no witches or extraordinary human beings in the tales, and fictional elements are separated from reality. After the rise of Islam in Iran, the concept of adding fictional elements to stories had changed. The fairies were standing as the symbol of redemption and positivity or evilness and guilt.
In the tales written by western authors, there are fewer signs of history and religion in the story, and the fictional part is trying to compensate for this issue. So they focus on the fairies. Root, history, and experience make Iranians use them to turn their ancestors' heritage into more attractive tales for generations.
