Behrouz Ferdows's Speech on Emerging Markets

Behrouz Ferdows, outstanding and leading entrepreneur, investor and advisor, Karlsruhe Germany civil engineering graduate, who has been working proactively internationally, has given a speech on emerging markets characteristics and risks/benefits of investing in the markets in developing markets.Behrouz Ferdows stated that emerging markets or emerging economies also known as developing countries, are nations that are investing in more productive capacity. These countries are moving away from their traditional economies i.e. economies that relied solely on agriculture and export of raw materials. It is a fact that leaders of developing countries seek to create a better quality of life for their people. A free market or mixed economy is what these countries are targeting at while rapidly industrializing. What are some defining characteristics of emerging markets?Behrouz Ferdows stated that according to World Bank developing countries are countries with per capita income of $3,995 or less. These emerging markets have lower-than-average per capita income. Rapid growth is the second characteristic followed by low income. Leaders in these economies are minded to undertake the fast track change to a more industrialized economy with the goal of remaining in power and helping their people. Brisk economic growth is the second defining factor of emerging markets. As statistics show in 2019, the most developed countries like Japan, Germany and Mexico enjoyed the economic growth of 3%. Growth in Egypt, Poland, India, and Malaysia was 4% or more while China and Vietnam experienced their economic growth by around 6% to 7%. High volatility which is the result of rapid social change is the third characteristic that can have origins in natural disasters, external price shocks, and domestic policy instability. Behrouz Ferdows stressed that being reliant on agriculture put countries in peril in the time of disasters such as earthquakes, Tsunamis, or droughts. It is evident that such disasters for instance the case with Thailand can provide additional commercial development. Another significant factor to mention is currency swings, which means emerging markets are more susceptible to volatile currency swings as well as commodities swings. The underlying reason is that these countries do not have enough power to influence these changes or movements. Undertaking the essential changes for industrialization, leaders may directly or indirectly cause many population sectors to suffer. Behrouz Ferdows reiterated that these changes and their effects could lead to social unrest and rebellion. The worst case could be investors’ loss when industries become nationalized. Having the potential for growth is the fourth characteristic which requires a lot of capital to invest. It is however obvious that emerging economies have less maturity in this respect compared to capital markets. Furthermore, no solid track record of foreign direct investment is seen in these countries and getting information about the listed companies on their stock market as well as selling debt such as corporate bonds on the secondary market is often challenging and risky.Higher-than Average Risk Return for InvestorsBehrouz Fredows emphasized that successful rapid growth can lead to the higher-than average return for investors due to these countries focus on export-driven strategies. Because there is no demand at home, lower-cost consumer goods are produced to be exported to developed markets. This interaction leads to higher stock prices for investors, higher return for bonds which costs more to compensate for the additional risk of emerging market companies. This quality of emerging markets attracts investors; however, not all emerging markets can be appreciative. Behrouz Ferdows reiterated that those emerging economies that have little debt, a growing labor market, and a government that is not corrupt seem to attract investors.Investing in Emerging MarketsBehrouz Ferdows expressed that picking an emerging market fund is the best among many ways to take advantage of high growth rates and opportunities in emerging markets. Many of these funds either follow or try to outperform the MSCI index which saves time for investors which dispenses the research for foreign companies and economic policies. Moreover, it reduces risk by the diversification of investments. Behrouz Ferdows restated that not all emerging markets are equally reasonable investments. Let us consider the cases with Brazil, Hungary, Malaysia, Russia, South Africa, Turkey, and Vietnam. These countries worked at rising commodities prices to grow their economies and there were no investment in infrastructure instead the extra revenue was spent on subsidies and creation of government jobs which ended in quick economic growth. Finally their reliance of imported goods led to inflation-a real setback. In addition, little bank savings ended in hindering them to lend to businesses to grow. Therefore, foreign direct investment by keeping the interests rates low was attracted by the governments. Without doubt, it helped increase inflation but resulted in receiving significant economic growth. Other side of the story was 5 years later in 2013 when commodity prices fell. Governments at the time being reliant on the high price of a commodity had two options either to cut back on subsidies or to increase their debt to foreigners. As the debt-to-GDP ratio increased, foreign investment decreased. One year later, currency traders started to sell their holdings. When the value of currency fell, a panic was spread which led to huge self-offs of currencies and investments.Characteristics of Emerging Economies and Investment CautionsEmerging market economies are countries in the process of becoming industrialized economies. They have low-to-mid per capita income, the brisk pace of economic growth, commodity and currency swings, high market volatility, and huge growth potential. Behrouz Ferdows stated further that emerging markets propose large opportunities for foreign investment. In fact, countries with stable government and low corruption incidences as well as low debt-to-GDP ratio plus a good pool of labor are ideal to make investments in. On the other hand, a number of these developing markets could possibly pose less than ideal conditions exposing investors to great risks from weak market capacity i.e. constrained financial system, low corporate governance or transparency, limited legal protection for investors, high costs of running business, high market and currency fluctuations, and restrictions on foreign accessibility.

Market Liquidity

Behrouz Ferdows, outstanding and leading entrepreneur, investor and advisor, Karlsruhe Germany civil engineering graduate, who has been working proactively internationally, has given a speech on the significance of market liquidity. Behrouz Ferdows started by defining market liquidity as the extent to which an asset can be converted into cash without affecting the market price. He added that the cash is the most liquid asset companies could have, in particular of a relatively stable currency. On the other hand, an asset with lower liquidity would be something less simple to convert cash for instance large assets such as plant, property, and equipment. The Most and the Least Liquid AssetsBehrouz Ferdows stated that cash is the most liquid asset you can own. Stocks and bonds are the non-cash assets which can also be most easily converted into cash. Behrouz Ferdows emphasized the significance of the trade volume for a stock or bond which leads to more liquidity since higher trade volume indicates that the asset is easily traded for the market price. Practically speaking, what this means is that the bid-offer-spread is low i.e. the difference between the bid price and ask price. Behrouz Ferdows mentioned investment assets (including restricted or preferred shares often with restrictions or terms upon which they can be sold) to be slower converted to cash and hence less liquid. On the contrary, collectable items such as coins and art are fairly illiquid. In case of urgent need for cash, the owners will apparently need to sell the items at a discounted price which clearly reduces the liquidity of this category of assets. Behrouz Ferdows reiterated that the liquidity could be reassessed should the demand for an item surge for instance a new trend for a particular artist. He further pointed out that plant, property, and equipment are even further on the liquidity scale. In addition, the businesses that one company own is regarded as the very least liquid assets being most difficult to sell due to the high degree of complexity involved in the sale. Why is Liquidity So Important?Behrouz Ferdows expressed that when considering the health of a company, understanding its liquidity is crucial for gauging how able a firm is to pay its short term debts and current liabilities. He noted there are a number of reasons for importance of market liquidity primarily its impact on how quickly one can open and close positions. As a liquid market is generally associated with less risk, there is often someone willing to take the other side of a given position. Attracting speculators and investors to the market adds to the favorable market conditions. Behrouz Ferdows stated that in a liquid market, a seller will quickly find a buyer without having to cut the price of the asset to make it attractive. Conversely, a buyer will not have to pay an increased amount to secure the asset they want. Furthermore, an asset’s liquidity is a key factor in determining the spread that a leveraged trading provider can offer. When there is high liquidity it conveys that there are a large number of orders to buy and sell in the underlying market. Then the probability of close relation between the highest price any buyer is prepared to pay and the lowest price any seller is happy to accept will be increased. To put it in other words, the bid-offer spread will tighten.Behrouz Ferdows continued that as we obtain our prices from those in the underlying market, a lower bid-offer spread here will consequently translate into lower spreads rendered on the platform. An illiquid market means that there is a much wider spread. When funding liquidity is tight, traders become hesitant to take on positions, especially “capital intensive” positions in high-margin securities. This lowers market liquidity, leading to higher volatility. Moreover, under specific conditions, low future market liquidity increases the risk of financing a trade, thus increasing margins. How to use liquidity in tradingBehrouz Ferdows stated that in trading financial markets, liquidity needs to be considered before every position is opened or closed since a lack of liquidity is often associated with increased risk. If there is volatility on the market, but there are fewer buyers than sellers, it can be more perverse to close your position. In this situation you could risk becoming stuck in a losing position or you might have to go to multiple parties, with different prices, just to fill your order. Liquidity risk can be managed through various methods for instance the use of guaranteed stops, a type of stop-loss that ensures your position is closed at your pre-selected price level. Guaranteed stops are not impacted by volatility, so can be a useful tool for navigating tumultuous markets. If your guaranteed stop is triggered, though, there would be a small fee to pay.The fact that market liquidity is not necessarily fixed is the most significant thing to take into consideration, working on a dynamic scale of high liquidity to low liquidity. A market’s position on the spectrum depends on a variety of factors such as the volume of traders and time of day.Large-cap stocks and liquidityBehrouz Ferdows pointed out that for a stock to be considered liquid, one needs to ascertain its shares is able to be bought and sold quickly and with minimal impact to the stock’s price. According to Canadian regulators, a liquid stock is classified as one that is traded at least 100 times per day and has an average daily trading volume of at least $1 million. Large capitalization or large-cap stocks refer to the shares of companies that are traded on major stock exchanges which tend to be highly liquid. It is estimated that a company typically needs to have a capitalization of $10 billion or more to qualify as a large-cap stock. They are also normally blue-chip stocks, which have established earnings and revenue. Conventional theory suggests that companies with larger market caps are more likely to have stable prices and a higher volume of traders, which means that the shares can be converted to cash relatively quickly.CommoditiesBehrouz Ferdows reiterated that liquidity and the accessibility of a market are directly related. Traditionally, commodity markets were viewed as significantly less liquid than other markets since the physical delivery of assets made them challenging to reflect. But with the rise of derivative products — including CFDs, futures, ETFs and ETNs — it is more straightforward as well as easier to trade commodities than ever before.

what is Sustainable Development?

Behrouz Ferdows is one of the most outstanding & leading entrepreneurs, investor & advisor, Civil Engineering graduate from Karlsruhe Germany, who has been working proactively internationally has given a speech on the importance of Sustainable Development.Behrouz Ferdows stated that the process of economic development and its changes bring gains to people all over the world. Increasing incomes and producing goods needed for a prosperous life, reducing diseases, lowering mortality rates, raising awareness and freedoms are among the achievements of economic and social development. But these achievements come at a high price to pay, including pollution, environmental degradation, and the loss of environmental and natural resources. Increasing awareness of these issues and fears of irreversible damage to the planet and the quality of life on Earth have drawn global attention to sustainable development. What is sustainable development? Behrouz Ferdows restated that the common definition of sustainable development commonly used by the World Commission on Development and the Environment is: “Development that meets the needs of the present generation, without compromising the balance of the next generation to meet their needs.” This view emphasizes what decisions and activities at the present can have consequences in the future. Especially in relation to available natural resources, environmental health and the destruction of local and global ecosystems. Development and urbanization: Efforts for sustainable development create social and economic pressures in cities, especially in developing countries. Under certain conditions, cities expand rapidly. Environmental issues arise very seriously. Such cities and towns meet the proportionate needs that result from the explosive growth of the urban population. Behrouz Ferdows continued that in demographic terms, global development is moving towards the phenomenon of urbanization. In the term, economic growth is the direction of most cities towards irresistibility and surrender. In each country of the world, the largest amount (Gross National Product) of GNP is produced within the cities and towns. In addition, new economic growth and development often takes place in cities. In general, rich countries have the highest levels of urbanization. This is because urbanization is the basis for creating diversity and creating a dynamic economy, both of which increase national productivity and create employment and income-generating opportunities. Without efficient and creative cities, national economic development will record or decline.Behrouz Ferdows explained Sustainable Development and Cities status :Behrouz Ferdows contributed that unfortunately, urban environments are highly sensitive to the dangers of our modern world. In industrialized countries (especially in Eastern and Western Europe), cities today suffer from poor economic management. Many of them inherit residual pollution from the past, such as soil and water pollution, toxic chemicals, resource degradation, poor consumption patterns and declining production technology, and so on. In the cities of developing countries, the dangers and problems are enormous for the following reasons: The scale and speed of growth of cities is irresistible. Urban infrastructure has been poor in the past. In major urban centers, the pace of industrialization is very high. Infrastructure, technical and managerial capacities are weak. The national and urban economy is relatively low and credit capacities are weak. As a result, many of these cities are heavily polluted from water sources, air pollution, inadequate drinking water, lack of sewage collection and treatment system, soil contamination with chemicals, accumulation of solid waste, soil erosion, declining levels of forests and pastures and, ultimately, unsuitable roads suffer. Behrouz Ferdows stated further that urban infrastructure in such cities has been inadequate in the past and has often remained the same or has deteriorated as a result of increasing need. The cumulative effects of such environmental issues not only threaten people’s health, but also seriously damage the city’s ability to achieve economic growth. The threat to the environment is not only from urban growth or economic development, but the problem is deeper. The following factors are threatening factors and environmental degradation: Inadequate policies for economic development and urban development, lack of understanding of the relationship between development and the environment, weak management capacity and organizations, lack of public awareness and public participation, technology constraints and the massive professional capacities of the above factors exist in many countries due to lack of economic and financial resources, and in some cases, local factors such as geological, geographical and climatic factors are added to it. Behrouz Ferdows contributed that the complexity of environmental issues has made it impossible for cities and villages to move towards sustainable development. Lack of simplicity and ease in this way should not in any way hinder the move towards sustainable development. Because the survival of life on earth, especially in cities, ensures the well-being of urban dwellers.Behrouz Ferdows elaborated that the Sustainable Cities Program helps developing countries by taking the following steps:· -Determining indicators of sustainable urban development· -Identifying urban environmental issues and problems· -Determining methods and approaches for developing cross-sectorial partners and building consensus· -Modern and advanced management planning· -Updating strategies and action plans· -Turning strategies and plans into workable projects· -Monitoring actions as seen, the first step in moving towards sustainable urban development is to determine Indicators are required.Behrouz Ferdows reiterated that the sustainability of urban development is threatened when the speed of government action in meeting the reasonable needs of the population is slower than the rate of population growth. The growing population needs for food, housing, land, employment and education, as well as environmental infrastructure such as drinking water, sanitation and sewerage services are the most important concerns of city officials. Because they must constantly try to provide the above needs in the best way. This index is effective when the rate of population growth in a given urban area is precisely determined, relationship with other indicators: These indicators are closely related to other socio-economic variables, including the percentage of population in the urban area, student population growth and overall population growth, as well as many environmental indicators such as change. Land use is related to water abstraction from sources and the generation of municipal waste.
