Hell isn’t other people. Hell is yourself

I was writing on Medium for a while, but now the internet has been shut down. Only here remains for me as a space for English self-expression.

“The limits of my language means the limits of my world.”

This is how Ludwig Wittgenstein describes my state of mind in this very moment. I love to write in English, but I don’t have the right words for some of my thoughts, not only in English, but also even in my mother tongue.

Well, Wittgenstein is straight with me when it comes to me and Him. It turns out he knows me well enough to play me with his words:

“Hell isn’t other people. Hell is yourself.”

And when the spiral starts in my mind. It doesn’t leave me easily. I am feeling silly enough to blame myself for my mistakes, but I guess it’s the only way of learning for me. Reminding myself of my mistakes in order not to repeat them:

“If people never did silly things, nothing intelligent would ever get done.” (Ludwig Wittgenstein)

I didn’t want to close this chapter of my life. It’s easy to cling to the things that you’re familiar with. This is what nostalgia does: keeping you under the radar and making you love the place you’re stuck with, reminding you of a pleasant, familiar feeling in the past.

“Nothing is so difficult as not deceiving oneself.”

The fun fact is that the answer we’re looking for is within ourselves: We just don’t know how to activate it.

“A man will be imprisoned in a room with a door that’s unlocked and opens inwards; as long as it does not occur to him to pull rather than push.”

Serious damage to a soul happens when you deny understanding your pain and feeling it. Pain finds its way to you anyhow; the more you repress, the more you find yourself uncomfortable when you’re alone.

And your blessing can be hidden anywhere, just give it a look, even in the most unimaginable places. We need to waste a few to achieve golden opportunities. Only nothing comes out of nothing.

“Don’t for heaven’s sake, be afraid of talking nonsense! But you must pay attention to your nonsense.”

And the tool for the moment you feel lost is writing. Writing helps you to see and find yourself as an entity again.

“The problems are solved, not by giving new information, but by arranging what we have known since long.”

I put all these quotes to remind you one simple rule:

“When we can’t think for ourselves, we can always quote”
