I am Seyyedeh Soraya Mojtahed Sistani, an Iranian contemporary artist specializing in Persian illumination (tazhib) and miniature painting (negargari). My artistic path is rooted in centuries-old Iranian visual heritage, yet constantly engages with the aesthetics and concepts of contemporary art.
In my practice, the precise geometry, delicate floral patterns, and gold leaf work of traditional illumination are reimagined through modern compositions, bold color palettes, and innovative visual narratives. The goal is not to replicate the past, but to revive it in a living form—one that speaks to today’s global audience while preserving the soul of Iranian artistry.
My inspirations range from the illuminated manuscripts of Persian literary classics to the abstract rhythms and minimalism of current art movements. Each piece is an attempt to create harmony between craftsmanship and concept, detail and abstraction, tradition and innovation.
Through this platform, I will share my creative process, research on Iranian heritage arts, and reflections on how classical beauty can be reinterpreted for our time. This is a journey where Contemporary Persian Art stands as a dialogue between the echoes of history and the voice of the present.
