بعضی از مطالعات آینده پژوهی نشان می دهد که یکی از روندهایی که تا چند سال آینده در جهان، شیب صعودی می گیرد مهاجرت معکوس نخبگان است. این پدیده، نوع خاصی از مهاجرت سرمایه انسانی است که در آن در جهت معکوس از یک کشور توسعه یافته به کشوری کمتر توسعه یافته اتفاق می‌افتد. این مهاجران ممکن است توانمندی‌ها، مهارت‌ها و سرمایه‌های مادی خود را به وطن خود بیاورند. کشورهایی که به ایجاد زیست‌بوم کارآفرینی، توسعه اقتصاد دانش‌بنیان و شرکت‌های نوپا توجه می‌کنند، شانس بیش‌تری برای مهاجرت معکوس نخبگان و بازگرداندن متخصصان و دانشگاهیان به کشورشان دارند.

همچنین کیفیت زندگی نیز بسیار موثر است. یک نسل پیش، بسیاری از استعدادها کار در خارج از غرب را سخت می پنداشتند ولی امروزه، استانداردهای زندگی مثلا در کشوری مثل امارات، جز بالاترین کشورهای دنیاست. کسب و کار معکوس سازی مهاجرت نخبگان، همانا کسب و کار ایجاد زندگی بهتر برای شهروندان است. همچنین کسب و کار ایجاد محیط های شاد و بانشاط، بخشی لاینفک از حکمرانی مطلوب محسوب می شود. کشوری مثل امارات ثابت کرده است حتی در محیط بی ثباتی چون خاورمیانه و منطقه ای پر از بحران و تعارض، می تواند جزیره ای از فرصت ایجاد کرد. روشنایی می تواند گاهی در انتهای یک تونل تاریک باشد.
اما باید شفاف تر سخن گفت : معکوس سازی مهاجرت نخبه، به سادگی زدن دوشاخه به پریز نیست ! به معنای تبدیل چرخه مخرب به چرخه موثر است. با جذب نخبگانی حتی از جوامع دیگر، ما روغن نوآوری و شکوفایی را به موتور اقتصادی خود پمپاز می کنیم. برای تحقق این امر، باید به مردم خود اعتماد کنیم. به ایده هایشان، نوآوری هایشان، رویاهایشان و ارتباطاتشان. در این صورت، بازگشت نخبگان، دیگر یک شاخص نتیجه (متاخر) نیست بلکه خودش یک شاخص محرک (متقدم) و محرک توسعه خواهد بود. زیرا جایی که ذهن های قوی باشند، رخدادهای خوبی حادث می شود.
